While students in the PhD program are enrolled in Yale University’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, their academic activities are rooted in the School of Architecture. Throughout their studies, students work in close collaboration with the Director of Doctoral Studies, relevant faculty, as well as with associated advisers in other departments. During their first two years, PhD students are expected to develop their research proposals within the framework of required seminars and chosen courses from across the university, fulfilling basic credit requirements as established jointly by the GSAS and the School of Architecture. In their third and fourth years, PhD candidates are required to assist faculty in courses provided by YSOA, while in their fifth year, they are expected to dedicate their time to concluding their dissertations.
